Double The Fun

I'm Brianne and I am a local TV producer and videographer in York Region. My job enables me to share stories and experiences with my viewers. At the age of 32 I am now writing a new chapter of my own...I'm a first time expectant mommy of not only one but two bundles of joy! The journey hasn't been an easy one. It's included a devastating miscarriage, infertility fears, followed by the unexpected yet amazing news that my husband and I will be welcoming twins in the spring. I started writing my blogs as a way to share my experiences, the good and the bad, as well as a way to help other moms and dads out there that might be going through something similar.

The POOP Predicament

Okay, does the "3-Day Potty Training Method" come with some fine print that I didn't notice? I mean, does every toddler who 'gets it' understand it COMPLETELY? Does it mean that they NEVER again have setbacks once they get it in those first three days? I know that this method doesn't work for every toddler. Take mine for example; one understood it by day two, the other by month two. But my toddler who did 'get it' still had accidents from...

Being Nice or just plain Nosey?

I've dealt with it before. Back to almost five years ago, just after our miscarriage. All of our friends were having babies and my husband and I were asked constantly when we planned on having a little one of our own? Little did they know that I was healing physically, emotionally and mentally at that very moment. And every time someone felt the need to be informed about our current situation, my delicate, freshly healed wounds would be...

Calendars and Consequences

I've said it before and I'll say it again:  Three year olds are tough! They're demanding but not in the way that a newborn is.  They're opinionated almost as if they're already teenagers, and when they want something, reasoning with them is almost impossible. Since our girls (although identical) are complete opposites, we were really struggling with this phase.  What worked to calm down one completely lit a fire under the other. When...

Father’s Day Gift Ideas

I don't know about the rest of you but for some reason when it comes to special occasions in our family it's either feast or famine. Meaning that, when we have one birthday we have at least four within that month. Same goes for other annual occasions, for example; Mother's Day and my moms birthday fall within a month of each other. Same goes for Father's Day; it falls just weeks ahead of my hubby's birthday. It's not the cost that is the...

“Why?”

I don't think that there's ever been a time in my life that I've had to answer so many questions. Being questioned by my parents when arriving home after curfew…those weren't easy to answer, but I managed. Being questioned during a job interview, I didn't always give the best answers but I at least thought them to be educated. But all of those tough questions in life were nothing compared to one simple word. One word, from three-year...

Surviving the Flu

We've all heard of the 'man cold'… that dreaded runny nose and coughing accompanied with whining…not from our kids, but from our husbands. Well let me tell you, the 'man flu' is even worse! My husband recently got slapped in the face with the flu. It hit fast and left him on the floor…literally. He slept on the bathroom floor. When someone is sick with the flu it's terrible. When your significant other is hit with the flu and you...

Temper Tantrum Triggers

Since writing my recent blog on having 'Threenagers' in our house, I've heard from a lot…and I mean A LOT of my parent friends who are going through the exact same thing. The consensus seems to be that the most random of things can set these kids off.  The struggle is REAL and there's no predicting when, where or why it will happen. Last week was a doozy in our household.  It seemed as though there was a meltdown every second day.  So...

The Stroller Dilemma

Back when we were expecting our twins we (like many others) did a lot of research into strollers. We went back and forth on which model, features, prices, brands you name it, we considered it. We decided to get one that had multiple seat configurations, big rubber wheels, a big storage basket…not to mention a big price tag! Over the past three years this thing has been through the ringer; it's been tossed in and out of the car and the...

Life with ‘Threenagers’

Okay, I had heard it from almost ALL of my friends: Whenever I would complain about the girls' attitudes when they turned two they just kept telling me, "Just wait until they turn three, it's even worse!" I honestly had some serious doubts about the validity to their comments. I mean, the 'terrible two's' were definitely REAL, how could it possibly get ANY WORSE? Well let me be the first to admit that I was wrong! The girls are just...

From Both Ends

Well if the title of this blog didn't forewarn you, let this be your warning now. This blog contains some vivid descriptions of some graphic events. Okay, you've been warned…but as fellow parents, I'm sure you've likely been in the exact same boat. As a parent we instantly learn how to love unconditionally. To do things that we never imagined we would, without even batting an eye. Like picking boogies out of our kids noses. Or giving...

The Braun ThermoScan Ear Thermometer is now Better Than Ever!

At my baby shower for the twins years ago I received a gift that wasn't on my registry. Not because I didn't want it, but simply because I didn't know about it. That gift was was the Braun ThermoScan Ear Thermometer and it's still to this day one of the most useful items I have. It's not used daily, or sometimes even monthly, but when the girls are sick or show signs of being 'off' it's the first thing I grab from their medicine bag. When...

Missing the Mark on Funny

I recently read a blog poking fun at a Facebook post made by a Sanctimommy. The first time mother of a 2-week old spent her time criticizing moms and parents who (in her words) use their kids as an excuse to be lazy. “It bothers me how much being a parent has turned into a martyr profession. Our children are not an excuse to be dirty or lazy and are not a parents [sic] scapegoat for whatever…So far I’ve managed to get enough sleep, cook...
