Baby Bottom Line

My name is Lisa, a GTA Mom... and the Mom behind The Baby Bottom Line. I love Mommy sites, product testing and dishing about them with other Moms! I am a mother to a preemie princess born in March 2009 and a Mama’s boy born in December 2012. I am the one person that if you don't want a truthful answer...don't ask me the question. Yes, I will tell you...you look fat in that dress, no..those shoes don't go well with that belt...or don't bother buying that baby product because you'll never use it! Trust me, sometimes you just need a truthful answer, hear that someone else has gone through the same thing or just someone to talk and connect with for support. If that's what you're looking for, I'm here to dish about it!

Life is Crazy

So lately I’ve been a little AWOL and I’ll apologize now! Pretty much I’m so busy that, really,  I don’t have time for much of anything anymore. M is in daycare, I’ve got full time work, hubby’s baseball, my baseball plus blogging, my product review site and a new small joint venture as well.  Oh, then I had strep throat, M had a sinus infection (thank you preschool. This one was a weeks’ worth of pure torture) and now my husband...

Pinkalicious The Musical

It was time to take my daughter to her first live theatre production. She is three and a half, and I’m sure that by this age my son had already been a few times. You know what they say about the second child… The wonderful people at the Vital Theatre Company have been offering me tickets for a while, but it seemed that I never had enough time. A couple of weeks ago I made the decision to clear my schedule and to take Alexandra to see...

Ten things you can do for a new mom

1. Cook and freeze her one week’s worth of dinners. Dinner is the toughest meal to prepare, because at the end of the night, parents of newborns are exhausted. 2. Take her baby for a two or three hour walk. Go to the mall or to the park, anything to get the baby out of the house so mommy can sleep. 3. Insist she have a shower or bath while you look after baby. Tell her to take her time, wash her hair, shave her legs, clip her nails, blow...

Where I’m From

I am from plaid tweed couches, from Heinz Ketchup on plain potato chips and lots of books. I am from the gathering place for friends and family. A family home in a neighbourhood with big and beautiful, shady trees. I am from the cherry tree and rose bushes. From the collard greens and the tomato plants. I am from big and loud family dinners and adults telling tales of countries far away. From music and dancing. I am from aunts and close...

The Secret No One Told Me

When pregnant with my identical twin boys I went through a rollercoaster of emotions. They shared a placenta and had many health issues - twin to twin, and IGUR being the main two. At one point I was told to be prepared for the demise of one of the twins. Despite all odds, the boys managed to stay in the warm comforts of my womb until exactly 34 weeks. It wasn’t a surprise that they were pre-mature but their weights were pretty good. Tanner...

Outdoor Safety

Kids should take advantage of the summer months to be active. Riding tricycles and bikes is as much a part of summer as ice cream and running through the sprinkler. It’s our responsibility as parents to protect our children from unnecessary injury. Biking is lots of fun but it can be risky without a safety helmet, particularly for children under three years of age. Babies are born with soft skulls to facilitate the birth process and allow...

My kids are grazers

My kids are grazers. They like to eat little meals throughout the day. My husband sets up these little ‘mezze’ style meals where he will make a plate for each of them with a variety of foods. Here’s an example of one of the more popular plates: Crackers Cheese Sliced cucumbers Sliced kohlrabi Halved tomatoes Baby carrots Sliced turkey sausage or pepperoni Of course they don’t need a fork to eat this glorious ‘snack’...

Mom Unplugged

Having my own business, I am fortunate to have flexibility in my schedule. I can’t imagine how full-time working moms do it all. Even working from home, there are days when I don’t know how I’ll get it all done. I suppose society has made life easier in some regards, with online shopping, 24-hour grocery stores and “Smart-phones” so you can contact your partner any time of day to pick up milk on the way home. There are no excuses...

What goes up doesn’t necessarily always come down…

There's a dangerous trend on the rise among preschoolers.  Forget obesity for the time being.  Forget bullying.  I'm talking about noses.  Or nostrils, more precisely.  What possesses kids to stick things up their noses, anyway?  It's as though they wake up one day and say, 'Hey, what are these strange holes doing on my face?'  The answer: to shove things up, obviously.  Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time... But it's no...

Babies are a gift that…

The inspiration for this book came from two babies, Baby Piper and baby Giacamo as well as a wide eyed sweet young boy named Cosmo as he awaited the arrival of his baby brother-to-be. This adorable little book reminds us of how precious babies are and that children need help to prepare for the arrival of a new baby. It also brings a smile with each page. Written by Maria Costa. www.achildsvoice.ca

Bedtime Battles

There are aspects of parenting that I feel like a total pro in. Then, there's bedtime. The beginning of Cailena's bedtime routine is so sweet; I really, really cherish it. Maybe too much... maybe she knows... It usually starts with a bath; although, if it's been a rainy or cold day and we've been stuck inside, neat and clean, a bath is sometimes skipped. Oh, How Sweet It Was! Then Caily dresses in fluffy, clean...
