Mommy brain down the drain

I have this theory about the phenomenon known as mommy brain. When my son was conceived, not only did he get half my genetic makeup (lucky, lucky boy), he also stole more than his fair share of my precious brain cells too.  As does Miss Mary Jane when you spend a little too much time in the lady's company. Little did I know these cells would never replenish themselves. Ever. And much like the stoner in his middle age... The havoc...

Babies with Gas: A Hard time for New Parents

Today, I met with a new client and her eight week old son. He was cute as a button and smiling when I greeted him. This was his first ever Massage! Lucky guy, he was in for a treat! So I thought. You see, this little guy among many babies suffered from gas and bloating! He was up all night, and always seemed to be in pain. His abdomen was hard and he sure was trying to push gas out. My new client told me that I was her last hope to help...

Preschool makes moms cry… what an evil place

So I ended up signing M up for full-time daycare/preschool. She was fine. We had the walk-through, checked the place out, everything was clean, the people were nice. I totally liked that they made all the food there and really, they loved that she was potty trained and so darn cute! LOL. We went 2 days for about an hour and a half so I could see her in the environment and the girls there could get to know me too. Yes I totally brought...

Blessed Events

The arrival of a new baby marks the beginning of social events taking on proportions like never before. Whether it’s a baby shower, baptism, or birthday party, they all seem to have one thing in common…cake! It’s no wonder we struggle to lose those pregnancy pounds. Never mind the daily challenge of resisting the goldfish crackers and arrowroot cookies that have invaded our kitchens. When you factor in all the celebrations over the span of...

Etiquette

There is a time and place for everything. Recently I was on a date at a restaurant with my hubby. It was a fairly nice place and we arrived for dinner around 8 o'clock. We were seated and instantly regretted where we were sitting - at the table next to us were two mothers with their four children who looked as though they were under six. I have no problem with parents wanting to enjoy an evening out with their children but this was just...

Is your child too big for his stroller?

There has been a bit of a buzz recently about parents who are using strollers for kids who appear to be too big for them. I wouldn’t say that I feel very strongly about this, it’s your kid and you can do whatever you want. If it’s easier for you to put your kid in a stroller – go for it. I do, however, have an opinion. And I don’t think that having an opinion makes me judgmental. Or does it? I’m confused. Anyway, I believe that...

Home Day Care or Professional Providers?

Now that “M” is at the age where she’s really active. ’m thinking having her go to a professional provider (even part-time) would be a good mix for her. She’s very talkative, loves interacting with other kids and really she’s such a smart cookie that I think she can totally strive in that type of environment. I do love home daycares though… they are more personal and I think they actually truly love those kids. Plus, realistically,...

Preparing your dog for a new baby

  •  Adjust Fido’s Hang Time: Since you will be spending so much time with the new baby, help Fido adjust to spending less time with you before the baby’s arrival so that the change does not feel so drastic • De-stress Fido: Try to foster a closer relationship between Fido and a different family member who will be less occupied by the baby, which will help to keep Fido from getting stressed from the detachment • Neuter...

Registry Rant

So I have 8 weeks left to go for my first child and it is a whole new experience that some of it I expected and some of it I did not. I have been getting so overwhelmed by stuff that it has been sending me into frenzies on a regular basis. My baby shower is coming up in a week and a half and since I haven't been working I don't have much to do but sit around at home and surf the internet. So I have this bad habit of checking my registry daily...

Toddler Eating – Are you on the right track?

A week ago, I held one of my all day Mommy Chef Tastes for Toddler cooking classes and something struck me (as it usually does) as I was speaking with the moms who attended the full day cook-a-thon class. It struck me how high the expectations of what a toddler eats are.  Whether it from parents, doctors, grandparents or friends, I see many concerned and worried faces when we talk about toddler eating habits. Some toddlers are really only...
