Sandy's Blah, Blah, Blog
I started Oh Baby! Magazine with my husband during my first pregnancy. My love of writing and my obsession with magazines paired with my husband’s many skills have proven to be a great combination. I'm from Toronto - born and raised - and I've been married for eight years. Since the inception of Oh Baby! I've had two babies, Andreas and Alexandra . What a ride it's been! I’d like to share with you my struggles with trying to find this so-called – and I think unachievable - “balance” I keep reading about… Follow Sandy E on Twitter
I can’t go to fat camp…so I’ll go to Booty Camp
I’m at the gym waiting for my spin class to start and I’ve started to wonder how I got to this point – or should I say weight. I have surrounded myself with pics of me at my ideal weight – or the weight that I’ve been the happiest at. Ironically, it’s from right before I got married. Six years ago. SIX YEARS! I don’t know why I gained 15 lbs almost instantly after my wedding - well maybe I have a few theories. This is what...
Have a safe trip, see you next fall
I got the call from the daycare. You know the call. The phone rings. You see that it’s the daycare calling and you almost don’t answer the phone. But you do. Because you’re a mom and you have to. Here’s how it went: “Hi Sandy, Andreas (my 4 yo) had an accident and we have to take him to the hospital”. That’s how the call started. So, I start to panic, and say something along the lines of, “Hurry up and...
The Art of Breastfeeding
I was recently sent a book called The Art of Motherhood from Getty Publications. I love this book. I love art, modern or classic, painting or sculpture. I especially love paintings of people and trees…I love how an artist translates facial expressions to canvas. Sometimes I get chills. Anyway, back to this book. I really enjoyed flipping through this book. It’s a collection of paintings depicting motherhood along with some fantastic...
Some mommy groups are not for me
After my son was born I started to go to a local mommy group. I loved it so much, mostly because it was real. It was a group of women who talked about real feelings. What it really feels like when you are so tired and you’re baby won’t stop crying. About when your husband tells you it’s about time you lose your baby weight (what a jerk that guy was). About why breastfeeding, even though you are happy to do it, sometimes just plain old...
Everything points to stopping at two…
The other day I spent most of my day looking through photo entries. Yes, I do look at each and every photo that is sent in. While doing this, I noticed that I was starting to feel a little broody. Maybe I should just stop using all contraception and just let nature take its course. If I get pregnant, I have another baby. No big deal right? Wrong. I sat and really thought about it for most of the afternoon. How nice it is to be pregnant. How...
My Daycare Rant
My kids are daycare kids. I would love to stay home with them (on some days) but it’s not feasible for us. I have thought about getting a nanny (it’s actually cheaper when you have two or more kids here in Toronto), but I’ll tell you about that another time. This post is a rant about the daycare that my two year old is in. It shall remain nameless and I still think it’s a fabulous facility. I’m just a little peeved at them right...
I’m Pregnant. Don’t look at me.
I saw a pregnant lady while I was shopping today, and I smiled at her. She looked as though she didn’t appreciate that very much. So I walked away and started thinking about my own pregnancies. When it was near the end of both of my pregnancies it used to bother me when people looked at me. I was absolutely ginormous, but when you’re pregnant everybody looks at you, big or small. When I was pregnant with my daughter, the cleaning lady...
The day the music died…
Ok, the day I bought a minivan. The day I bought a minivan a little bit of me died. It may sound silly to some of you, but I am a city girl. I was born and raised in Toronto, and I don’t really like driving. I walk and I take public transit. That’s what I do. Pre-babies my husband Nick and I didn’t own a car. We used to walk to work, the grocery store, walk to pubs, walk to bars, take cabs, streetcars or buses, whichever came first....
Sandy’s Blah, Blah, Blog
So, I wanted to start my own blog. Why? Well, I really enjoy reading blogs – especially mommy blogs. And every time I read one, usually, I can relate. So I figured, why can’t I write one? I’m the editor of a baby magazine and I already have a website - so why not let people into my crazy life and why not let Oh Baby! readers know that I’m a nutjob? Why not? Well, after putting together my pros and cons list – I LOVE lists, I also...
