Double The Fun

I'm Brianne and I am a local TV producer and videographer in York Region. My job enables me to share stories and experiences with my viewers. At the age of 32 I am now writing a new chapter of my own...I'm a first time expectant mommy of not only one but two bundles of joy! The journey hasn't been an easy one. It's included a devastating miscarriage, infertility fears, followed by the unexpected yet amazing news that my husband and I will be welcoming twins in the spring. I started writing my blogs as a way to share my experiences, the good and the bad, as well as a way to help other moms and dads out there that might be going through something similar.

Life as a SAHM

I can't believe that it's been an entire month since my last day at work. Time is certainly flying by as a stay at home mom. Having said that, it definitely hasn't been easy. Let me explain. Not only does my full time job now entail a full day of fun and craziness with my own two kids, but I've also offered daily daycare for my niece. She's one, they're two. If you think your day is busy, try coming to my house for an hour! I try to...

Life Changing Decision

Six months ago I wrote my blog entitled 'Toughest Decision Ever.' It was based on my decision to go back to work full time after being home with my twins for two years through mat leave and then an unpaid leave of absence. In January we started the task that many other parents endure of transitioning our kids into daycare. I returned back to work, to all of my colleagues, to my old desk that had barely been touched. To a career that I had...

A trip…without kids!

I love to travel: Day trips, weekend trips, week-long trips to sunny destinations, our honeymoon in Ireland and nearly a month-long tour in Australia with strangers who became friends. My husband travels quite a bit too. He travelled a lot before we met, and now his work has him out of country every couple of months or so. Because I love to travel so much, it actually took me by surprise when I realized that the last time I had been on a...

Corrected Age

“Corrected Age.” This is a term that parents of premature babies become very familiar with. But what does it mean exactly? Well here’s the Coles Notes version: Chronological Age = Actual Age. This is how most of us calculate our own age based on the date we’re born. Corrected Age = Adjusted Age. This is calculated by subtracting the baby’s actual birth date from the expected due date. Clear as mud right? Here’s an...

Battle Wounds

According to the dictionary a scar is defined as: a mark left by a healed wound, sore, or burn. For me and many others, it means so much more. I've obtained a few in my lifetime. One on my knee from flying over the handlebars on my bike as a kid, one on my knuckle for skinning it again a brick wall in grade school. Funny, no matter how minimal the act to get them I never forget how they got there. My husband has a few from before we met and...

My Biopsy

I have a confession to make. I share quite a lot of personal information with all of you through my blogs. This is something I'm happy to do. I do it in hopes that my stories will help parents who might be going through the same things I've been through. I hope that my stories make you laugh, inspire and educate you. I've withheld one very important story from you all. I'm not exactly sure why. It's very personal but not any more...

Sneaky Veggies

When it comes to eating habits, kids can throw you for a loop. One day they gobble up everything on their plate, then the next time you make them the same meal they barely touch it. Or even worse, you go to the extra trouble of making a very special meal and they turn their noses up at it. For instance, my homemade mini beef pot pies; hubby and I gobbled them up and the girls barely touch theirs. I could've just made mac and cheese and I'm...

Mommy’s Night Out

A mommy friend of mine had recently written a blog about her experience of going out on the town now versus back in the day. I found myself laughing out loud to her comparisons and comments only to discover the very same reality check when I went out recently with a few of my girlfriends. When we were in our 20's we would venture down to the city about once a month to either a club or bar and party until the early morning hours, wake up...

2nd Birthday Party Madness

It’s been one heck of a year! Since their first birthday parties the girls have sprouted a mouthful of teeth, taken their first steps which have now turned into a full-on sprint and gone from eating mushy food to gnawing on chicken wings. When you hear people say that “time flies” they aren’t joking. I can hardly believe the difference a year makes. So when it came time to plan our twins’ second birthday party it should have...

Did I Just Say That?

As a thirty-something-year old mother of twins, I will admit that inserting the newest ‘lingo’ into my daily conversations isn’t a top priority. Acronyms like ‘YOLO’ and ‘LOL’ creep in the odd time but it’s more for efficiency rather than the cool factor. There are some phrases, however, that I do find tend to creep in on a daily basis. They’re comments that would have many scratching their heads, but as parents, make...

Single Parenting

I've been very fortunate that since day one my hubby has been extremely helpful and supportive. Even prior to the birth of our girls when I was put on bed rest he stepped up to meet the challenge. I'm not trying to boast, but the point of this blog is to demonstrate the fact that I've seldom had to parent twins on my own. My husband's job requires him to travel at times. From the start of my last trimester up until when the girls were...

Weak Jaws

Many, many months ago I wrote a blog entitled ‘The Dreaded Blocked Duct!’ It highlighted the many struggles I had while breastfeeding the twins. Being born at 31.4 weeks they entered the world before they knew how to eat. After weeks of being tube fed they slowly got stronger and did eventually take to the breast; however, they were never strong enough to get a full feed from it. As a result, I was always topping up with either pumped...
