Mom … what is this Christmas you speak of?

So every year during the Santa Claus parade I set up our Christmas tree and the few decorations we have around our house. Well this year was different. I couldn’t just stick “M” in her bouncer and have her watch me … she wanted to help! So it took probably 5 times longer than it usually does and I think she may only have put 2 decorations on (she kept dropping them and they’d roll under the couch lol) but it was fun none the less.

We took her to the Santa Claus parade by our place this weekend too. She was cold and really didn’t get it at all. Next year I think she may get the whole thing a bit more. She likes seeing all the lights and the music and she LOVES walking through the mall to see all the “pwitty” decorations. But really she has got no clue what’s going on.

I sat her down last night and tried to explain things in a very, very basic way. She looked at me and said, “WHAT?” At that point I looked at her and said, “Santa brings gifts to good little girls, have you been good all year?,” she replies with a, “Yep,” and a little evil grin, totally the Grinch that stole Christmas grin, but imagine how creepy it is coming from a 20 month old.

Trying to find presents for the kid that has everything is really, really hard. Her Grandparents spoil her to the point that they’ve told me NOT to buy her any toys so imagine what that means for my living room. I’m dreading it already. I even wanted to do an advent calendar for her because growing up I always had one and not the chocolate ones. I had a material one that “Santa” stuffed with really good stuff. I discussed it with my husband and she’s just not ready for it. When you have little kids the holidays are more special to the parents and the older family members. So I guess I just have to sit back, relax and enjoy the holidays… and the craziness that comes along with it!
