Future Yogi?
I’ve recently shared my struggles with my son in the mornings. I have an update for you.
What I know about me
I’m still not a morning person.
My solution
I set my alarm to go off at 6:45am instead of 7:15am – this way I still get to hit the snooze button twice and I’m up 30 minutes earlier. (Crazy I know – but it seems to work)
What I know about my son
This little guy – who has trouble sleeping – hates waking up in the morning to go to school. He has to be dragged out of bed. I have to repeatedly tell him to wake up and he normally isn’t out of bed until about 7:45. Once he’s out of bed, he then lies down on the bathroom floor. This has been a HUGE struggle for us. You can imagine how 20-30 minutes of this every morning can get extremely frustrating. I believe that this would test the patience of a priest.
My solution
I’ve decided to start Yoga in the morning and wake ups are delightful – so far. Let me explain:
My alarm goes off and I’ve hit the snooze button twice. I climb over my son to get up.
I whisper in his ear: “Are you going to join me for some Yoga this morning?”
Immediately he gets up and says, “Yes!”
AND sit down for this one:
“Thank you for waking me up mommy.”
OH.MY.GOD.
What I’ve learned
All this time I’ve been struggling to get him out of bed. The secret was right here all along. Give him something to do first thing in the morning that didn’t involve washing, dressing or eating breakfast and he’s the happiest camper in the park. OR he is a future yogi.
What a revelation.
Now I just have to figure out how to get him to put his snowpants, boots, coat, hat, scarf and gloves on by himself. Baby steps.
