When parents get sick

I have to say that this school year we have not been hit by a lot of the viruses that have been going around.  I believe it’s because we have started using Essential Oils as part of our health routine.  This week I got hit with a doozy of a cold.  Even though I use essential oils, it’s not a miracle medicine that will make me immune to everything (I wish!).  I’ve been suffering with sinus pain, congestion, coughing, sneezing…ya, you get the picture.

You know what’s even worse….MY HUSBAND GOT SICK TOO!  We got the doozy of a cold at the same time.  That’s just NOT ALLOWED to happen.  Who the heck is going to take care of the kids if we are both down and out?  My parents live two hours away, and his parents are in Sault Ste. Marie!  Needless to say, the kids spent a few days in their pyjamas eating chicken nuggets baked in the oven with french fries, oh, and a lot of peanut butter sandwiches.

There needs to be a law that parents are not allowed to get sick at the same time, OR, better yet, some sort of control switch in the children’s brain so that should the parents become sick, they instantly have all the common sense they need to take care of themselves for a few days so mom and dad can sleep when they need to!

A mom can dream, right?

Today we are finally on the mend.  My son is dressed and my daughter’s hair got brushed.  Hubby is likely going back to work tomorrow, and I will have enough energy to not be a lump on the couch.  Good times are ahead.  I guess I should get some grocery shopping done too; we are out of peanut butter!

So true! I almost shouldn’t say this but sometimes it’s easier when the kids catch the bug at the same time so their energy levels are low when ours are. That, and with any luck the sickness doesn’t linger quite as long.

Oh say it! You’re right, but then I think that I’d rather have the energy to take care of them, especially if they are pukey. I don’t know about your kids, but my kids have a high energy level even when they are sick, unless they’re VERY sick.

      Thanks for your comment!

Oh no! It sucks when both parents are sick at the same time. Glad you’re both getting better!

      Thanks! Me too! :)

It’s even worse when the other half is prone to symptoms of “the man cold” – then mom ends up taking care of babies AND the man cold too ;) I hope you’re all feeling much better now!

Agreed about the man cold, hah. I have such a hard time when I’m sick even standing up never mind caring for G. Thankfully he is a pretty mellow toddler.

It’s so hard when families share the ‘not good stuff’ like illnesses. I’m so fortunate to have older neighbours who consider themselves ‘family’. To me, they’re our guardian angels – especially when we all get sick.

We’ve gone through all the sickness in our house too!

Its soo frustrating when you go through a round that turns into weeks of sickness in the house.  We had a cold passed between the four of us for weeks, it wasnt’ till we went South that we were all better!

I hate it when we get sick plus the kids!!  We had a stomach bug all at the same time:(
