As a daddy to six kids, I know as well as anyone that every child is different. And in the spirit of uniqueness, teething often various from baby to baby. So if you think your baby is teething, here’s what you can do to help:
Get the Toys: All babies teethe at one time or another, and numerous amounts of toys are available to help soothe your child’s achy gums. One of my absolute favorites, as I’ve used it time and again, is Sophie the Giraffe. Sophie is handmade in the French Alps with non-toxic food based paint and is BPA free. Again, the amounts of toys for teething are endless. If you don’t know which one to buy for your little one, visit your local baby store and ask some questions.
See Your Doctor: If your baby seems to be having a particularly difficult time – don’t simply chalk it up to teething. It’s always best to see your doctor to rule out any other illness or ailments. Should your doctor determine your baby is in fact teething, they can give you suggestions on helpful pain management strategies that are both safe and effective for your child.
Hang in There: When your baby is teething they can often times be irritable and sleepless. Just remember that every stage is temporary, and your baby is changing all the time. Try to enjoy each moment – even the rough ones – as they truly are fleeting. Find support through other parents or online groups and communities if necessary.
Being a new daddy is always exciting. Have fun with your baby as often and possible, and soothe them whenever necessary.
