Sandy's Blah, Blah, Blog
I started Oh Baby! Magazine with my husband during my first pregnancy. My love of writing and my obsession with magazines paired with my husband’s many skills have proven to be a great combination. I'm from Toronto - born and raised - and I've been married for eight years. Since the inception of Oh Baby! I've had two babies, Andreas and Alexandra . What a ride it's been! I’d like to share with you my struggles with trying to find this so-called – and I think unachievable - “balance” I keep reading about… Follow Sandy E on Twitter
Father’s Day
I don’t have a father, so I thought I’d write this to the best father I know: My husband. Thank you for being a great husband and for thanking me when I birthed our kids. For loving our kids and for being a fantastic father. For making lunches and washing dishes. For folding laundry and for cleaning up vomit. For your creative and adventure-filled bedtime stories that I could never tell. We are so happy that you are in our...
Happy Birthday Mommy!
I’m not a fan of people saying I am lucky or that they are lucky in life. I have a great job because I earned it. I have a wonderful husband because we chose each other. My marriage is good because we work at it. What I can say, is that I am lucky to have a fantastic mother. Some may argue that before I decided to be born to this earth I chose that too. Either way, I appreciate her very much. My mom, the birthday...
My Baby Girl’s First Haircut
My daughter is four and had yet to cut her hair. This wasn’t really an issue, apart from the fact that the ends of her very long hair were getting dry and split so I felt that it was time for a trim. I booked an appointment for her at a local kiddie salon. They let her sit in a pink car and gave her a lollipop as well as a pic of her new haircut, a certificate and a little baggy with some of her curls in it. It was a $26 haircut and we have...
My daughter was two…
I took her to the mall and she was cranky. Cranky for a reason that only she could understand and sadly she wasn’t able to communicate her feelings to me in the way that I wanted her to. While walking from one store to another, she decided to have a tantrum. I tried to quietly talk to her and pick her up, but she wasn’t having it. So I sat down on a bench that was right beside where she decided to have her meltdown (luckily for me). I sat...
Friday letters
My son’s school has this fantastic writing activity called Friday Letters. Every Friday he writes his father and I a letter and we respond by writing him a letter on the following page of his notebook. Ahem, ahem… I respond by writing him a letter on the following page. This was my son’s letter to us after we returned from our Smuggler’s Notch vacation: Translation Dear Cool Mom and Dad, I hope you had a...
Our Family Winter Vacation
The drive from Burlington up to Smugglers’ Notch was scenic and only took us about 30 minutes. Luckily I had printed some maps and directions because, for whatever reason, the built in GPS system in our car wasn’t working. This was annoying to say the least. Technology. Sometimes it’s a real fail. The scenic drive to Smuggler’s Notch. My non-skiing family was excited to arrive at the resort early and we were...
Burlington, Vermont where have you been all of my life?
As you may know, my little, happy family was invited to visit Smuggler’s Notch this winter. Since we decided to drive there, we planned to stay in Burlington, Vermont for a night. I have a friend who loves Burlington and says that she wants to retire there. I now know why. Our drive was pleasant. My daughter vomited about an hour into our journey, but I’m a pro now and I caught it all in a designated ‘puke bowl’. There wasn’t a drop...

Road Trip – Part II
What am I thinking? I was stressed out the last time we planned a family road trip. Mostly because my daughter is not a fan of 1) Being told what to do 2) Being stuck in a car seat for more than 10 minutes 3) Being told what to do Our trip to NYC was a success. I can honestly say it went well, puke and all. Yes, my little one is a puker, but she let it out (twice) and then we were able to get on with our journey. We...
The Knot Genie
Really, it’s some kind of miracle. My 4yo has very long hair, it’s a little curly and it’s pretty fine, so it tangles quite easily. Up until now, I’ve been using a detangling spray on her hair and I’ve been brushing it twice a day one section at a time. A few weeks ago I received a sample of this “miracle” brush called the Knot Genie. I was skeptical. To be completely honest it looked like a brush you would use to groom a...
Sisters
My sister is seven years older than I am. That seems like a huge age difference, but it was never a big issue for us. We usually got along well, we rarely fought and we are still pretty close. See how happy she was to have me in her life? Also: Check out my mother’s bed spread. The hardest part of our relationship was when I was young. I always wanted to go with her everywhere she went. Not very cool when she was 16...
