My First Post Ever

Welcome to my first blog… ever! This is a new thing for me although I do a lot of writing for websites, and I’ve been told blogging is similar… I’ll let you be the judge!

So let me introduce myself so you know who’s behind these new weekly posts. I’m a mom of two lovely daughters, a nutritionist, entrepreneur, and am totally passionate about food and how to best feed moms, babies, and families.

I started my company, Sprout Right, after my first daughter was about 13 months. I had a tough time figuring out how and what to feed her, as well as sort through all the opinions, suggestions and not to mention the pressure from friends and family to all be doing the same thing. I took it upon myself to research what was best for my daughter and then after helping my friends with their babies, I decided to make a business of it.

I started Sprout Right, my company, in 2004 with offering workshops and consultations to anyone that needed help or support while pregnant, or with a new baby or toddler. One of the first locations to do a workshop was Whole Foods Market in Yorkville and I’ve been there ever since! I did workshops at Diaper-eez in Bloor West Village, Scooter Girl Toys on Roncesvalles.

Then one day, a great friend of mine suggested that I offer cooking classes. Initially I thought it was a crazy idea—who needed help with cooking? Wasn’t it a natural thing for everyone to make their own food? Well, apparently not! For the past three and a half years, I’ve offered Mommy Chef Cooking Classes (to dad’s too) and grown my business by teaching new parents about the importance of making food for themselves, their babies and toddlers. I have produced two instructional Mommy Chef DVDs and written my first book (available for pre-ordering at www.sproutright.com)!

So now you know a bit about me, it’s your turn. Let me know what your path of eating has been with your baby. I’m curious to know what you would like to read about in my new blog. I’ve got some ideas, but your input with help to make it that much better!

So stay tuned for some great nutrition information, support and ideas for you and your family.
