Mommy Time Out

Hi! I'm Angela Hickman and I'm a Milton mom to a beautiful girl and handsome boy! Yep I have the "Million Dollar" family:) I love being a mom and my wish is to one day be a stay at home mom. It's tough being a full time employee, mom to highly energetic kids and wife to a wonderful husband. There isn't much time for a Mommy Time Out but I always try to find a little time. I love to shop and find new things that help make life easier and sometimes even more fun. My blog is all about the joys and frustrations of being a mom and hopefully helping other parents find products that will help make their life easier.

I’m a wimp

I discovered this week that my daughter, at 3 years old, is braver than I ever will be.  She is a child who loves to take chances.  She will play on the monkey bars and get mad if we try to support her.  She will slide down the biggest of slides.  When we went on our trip to Calgary (first time on a plane for her) she had to see out the window at how high we were going. Monday we went for our flu shots.  When I get a needle, I can’t...

For posterity’s sake

The other day in my haste to clear space on my video camera, I accidentally deleted about 70 irreplaceable family memories. I felt sick about it and still do when I’m lying in bed and trying to fall asleep. I close my eyes and am inundated with flashbacks of everything I erased – events like my daughter’s 10th birthday party and her first Lip Sync competition, but also countless adorable everyday moments. I may have been rationalizing...

Parenting: The Ultimate Work Out

The holiday season is mere weeks away and our ambitions to fit into that cute sleeveless Little Black Dress gain strength. But who has time or energy to work out? Good news Moms: Turns out you already are. As a public service I just wanted to remind you of all of the exercising you’re already doing. The Toddler Squat: If you are the parent of a child between the ages of approximately one and four, you will spend a huge and torturous amount...

My first time using a breast pump

I remember it well. My son was six weeks old and I took my doula’s advice to introduce a bottle to him at this time. Breastfeeding was going great and I would soon need my mom to bottle feed him so that I could return to work. I learned that this is a crucial time to introduce a bottle. If you do it sooner you may end up with nipple confusion and you could hurt your milk supply too soon in the breastfeeding game. If you wait too long you...

Post-Natal Core Exercises

I'd like some great core exercises for women who have 'split' their abs during pregnancy. Mine are only slightly separated but I have only seen exercises I can't do in my mommy n me fitness class (plank, sit ups, etc). – Amber Great question!  Diastasis recti is common during pregnancy and it is essentially a separation of the abdominal wall at the linea alba (midline of the abs).  You’ll want to ensure the muscles come back together...

Ice Ice Baby

It’s all happened to us, we had a great party and, after all the guests have left and all the food has been eaten and/or put away we are left with the bottles of wine with only a little bit left and carafe of coffee that haven’t even been touched. What do you do? Throw it out? Well now that we have decided to expand our little family of 3 to one of 4 we are looking for more ways of being thrifty. Below are some of the thrifty ideas I have...

Hi my name is Lisa and I am a Long-weekend-a-holic. I will take them any time I can get my hands on them, make my own when I see fit and enjoy the heck outta em’! I’m addicted and think I may actually need to start a 12 step program to bring me back to reality after a really enjoyable one. I love spending as much time with the fam as possible, so being able to take an extra day to enjoy the beautiful weather, do a day trip, or take...

I love my mommy!

It dawned on me on the first birthday I celebrated after my baby was born that I should totally give my mom a present on my birthday. I have always appreciated and loved my mother very much. She didn't have the easiest time as a mom. My dad died when I was three and my sister was ten. My mom never remarried or even dated for that matter, and so she took on the role of mom and dad. She worked really hard and we were always loved very much and...

Grey's Anatomy star Sarah Drew is inviting readers to follow along as she experiences her first pregnancy! There’s nothing like an ultrasound to make this whole pregnancy thing feel super real. I have to say, my first ultrasound was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. My little person was in constant motion. Baby kept moving it's arms up to it's face. It yawned. It kicked it's little legs out. At one point it was facing...

Hot Yoga While Pregnant?

Please set the record straight on hot yoga while pregnant! Doctor says no, others say its okay if you're a long time hot yogi. I miss Moksha! – Katie It’s always difficult to give up things you love (coffee anyone?) but I would have to agree with the doc on this one. Hot yoga classes can increase your core temperature and during pregnancy, you want to avoid overheating to protect baby. Try other yoga classes at room temperature and as...
