Dear Kat,

My baby is now 4 months old and I haven’t had a single glass of wine since the day I found out I was pregnant. My cousin’s wedding is coming up and I was wondering if having one glass would be safe for my breastfed baby?

Alison, Niagara Falls

Alison,

Have that glass of wine now, mama! The amount of alcohol that gets passed into your breast milk is so very miniscule that you could have two, if you wanted. The only thing that you should consider before heading to the wedding is if you plan on cosleeping when you get home – if you’re drunk, it’s best to sleep on the couch or put baby in a cot/basinet outside of the bed. Otherwise, you’re golden. Enjoy the party!
