Eco-Crafty Fun

Crafts provide endless hours of creative fun. However, many mainstream craft supplies may be made with materials that are possibly not healthy for the planet or our children. With that in mind, we have the vibe on some great eco-friendly, non-toxic craft supplies that provide the building blocks for hours of creative eco fun.

Natural and recycled is the crafty way

Craft Caravan is a fun Canadian-run company that delivers monthly craft kits to children and is an expert when it comes to crafts. To our delight, they carry an extensive selection of great craft products that have been made with natural or recycled ingredients, which are suitable for a variety of ages.

Eco-playdough is handmade with natural ingredients, including extracts from fruits and vegetables, and each batch is nicely scented. Available in a tube containing five balls of bright colour eco-dough that comes in recycled plastic containers, the play-dough is a delight to work with.

The natural powered paints are handmade with flour, cornstarch, seaweed, natural and organic fruit, and other fine natural colouring ingredients. We love the idea of powered paints as each container can mix more than 60 one-ounce batches of paint. Turn your craft time into a bit of a science lesson by mixing colours to create your own colour palette.

Other fun eco-friendly craft supplies include the recycled crayons that come in stars, worms and crayon sticks and are packaged in funky tin cans. The crayons are recycled from crayons that have been diverted from landfills. For little hands, the stars are easy to grasp.

We love the eco-art pads that are made from recycled banana tree stalks, which is an agricultural bi-product that would otherwise go to waste. Each piece of paper in the sketch pad has a unique natural texture and appearance because of the nature of the contents. The pencil crayons and pencils made from recycled paper are a great add-on for drawing and colouring.
