Avocado Smoothie

Courtesy of: Little Green Pouch avocado

When to Introduce:  4 – 6 months

Ingredients:
2 ripe avocados
2 ripe bananas
1 ripe pear
1 cup water

Directions: Thoroughly wash the fruit. Cut the avocados in half and remove the pit. Scoop out the “meat” and put into blender. Peel the bananas and put into blender. Cut the top and bottom off of the pear and then cut into wedges, making sure you remove the core area. Place into blender. Pour in 1 cup of water (more or less depending on how thick you want it) and blend on high until all ingredients are pureed to your liking.

Notes: Avocado browns easily, so its best to freeze the remaining puree.

Stars: Avocados are a great “first food” for babies because of the creamy texture and the high nutritional content. Though avocados are a high fat fruit, they are a wonderful “good fat” food for baby’s brain and physical development. Sodium and cholesterol free, avocados contain valuable nutrients including 8% of the recommended Daily Value (DV) for folate; 4% DV for fiber and potassium, 4% DV for vitamin E; and 2% DV for iron. A serving of avocado also contains 81 micrograms of the carotenoid lutein and 19 micrograms of beta-carotene. Per serving, avocados have 3.5 grams of unsaturated fats, which are known to be important for normal growth and development of the central nervous system and brain. (www.avocado.org)
