I have to say that this school year we have not been hit by a lot of the viruses that have been going around. I believe it’s because we have started using Essential Oils as part of our health routine. This week I got hit with a doozy of a cold. Even though I use essential oils, it’s not a miracle medicine that will make me immune to everything (I wish!). I’ve been suffering with sinus pain, congestion, coughing, sneezing…ya, you get the picture.

You know what’s even worse….MY HUSBAND GOT SICK TOO! We got the doozy of a cold at the same time. That’s just NOT ALLOWED to happen. Who the heck is going to take care of the kids if we are both down and out? My parents live two hours away, and his parents are in Sault Ste. Marie! Needless to say, the kids spent a few days in their pyjamas eating chicken nuggets baked in the oven with french fries, oh, and a lot of peanut butter sandwiches.

There needs to be a law that parents are not allowed to get sick at the same time, OR, better yet, some sort of control switch in the children’s brain so that should the parents become sick, they instantly have all the common sense they need to take care of themselves for a few days so mom and dad can sleep when they need to!

A mom can dream, right?

Today we are finally on the mend. My son is dressed and my daughter’s hair got brushed. Hubby is likely going back to work tomorrow, and I will have enough energy to not be a lump on the couch. Good times are ahead. I guess I should get some grocery shopping done too; we are out of peanut butter!

So here we are, almost 1/4 of the way into 2011, my supposed “year of change”, and I’m not doing very well. I started off great! Like most at the beginning of this year, I was motivated, got a gym membership, was making meals at home and actually beginning to enjoy cooking again. Then, about 2 weeks ago, my husband had to work late, and I used that as an excuse to go back to my old habits.

I have to face facts. I am 35 years old, and I need to take control of my health if I want to be around to meet my grandchildren some day. I want my children to be healthy and not put them at risk of developing diabetes, bad eating habits and become obese, unhealthy children. I want my husband to be healthier also so he will be around for a long time to come.

I know I’m the lynch pin to all this. I’m the one that decides on our meals, when we eat out and where, etc. I have to “stop the insanity” and take charge of my life, our lives, and change everything.

I have to remember that this will not happen over night. I have to do this in small steps to form healthy habits. I hope that you’ll all follow along with me to help keep me motivated. I won’t be posting before and after pictures, how much weight I’ve lost, my measurements, etc. That’s NOT what this is about for me. If I loose weight, great. If not, that’s ok too. At least I know I’ve made a change in the name of good health. I think that will be my biggest motivator of all!
I may even throw in some photography tips along the way.
Thanks for being here with me! I look forward to the comments, and by the way, I do my best to reply to comments.
