Time flies, and before you know it, you’re getting your little ones signed up for daycare or school. Just remember that part of getting them ready is making sure they are up to date on their vaccinations.

School-age children, from daycare to college students, require vaccines – and it is your parental responsibility to ensure that your children stay up to date. Immunization is not compulsory in Canada, though recommendations have been put in place to protect the population from preventable diseases. Visit www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/im/iyc-vve/is-cv-eng.php to find out exactly which vaccinations are recommended in your province, and at what age.

Did you know?√  Over the past 50 years, immunization has saved more lives than any other health measure.√ Vaccination is the best way for you and your family to prevent very serious diseases.

Getting every recommended dose of each vaccine provides children with the best protection possible. However, if you know or suspect you have missed one or more of your children’s vaccines, book an appointment with your doctor or public health provider as soon as possible. They can help you determine what vaccines your child has already had and which ones are still needed.

Here’s to an exciting start to your new school or daycare year, and to a year filled with good times and great health!
