SuperBaby

By: Lisa Foeste Superbaby

In the world of parenting, self-help books are abundant and can be overwhelming at times. While we believe there is no one ultimate ‘Bible’ of parenting know-how that has all the perfect answers (as everyone’s approach is different), we do think this book is definitely worth taking a read.

How to give your child a head start

Written by award-winning columnist, child therapist and mother Dr. Jenn Berman, Superbaby: 12 Ways to Give Your Child a Head Start in the First 3 Years focuses on raising a child who is empathetic, resilient and emotionally intelligent. The first three years of a child’s life are the most important in a child’s development and Berman points out all the critical windows and gives parents the knowledge they need to make the most of these windows for their child’s optimal mental and emotional growth.

In each chapter, Berman focuses on one of 12 areas that greatly impact a baby’s development, including respectful communication, responding to cues, creating security and predictability, the importance of touch, promoting language development, sign language, foreign language, the importance of play, reading and TV time, reducing exposure to toxic chemicals, and nutrition.

Why we like it

It’s been a while since we came across a book focusing on child development that we’d be interested in telling you about. We like the fact that this book is not about how to mold your child so he or she will make it into the best schools but rather it is about nurturing a baby to help her reach her full potential in life. This book offers practical and easy ways to help nurture and encourage your baby’s development, and doubles as an excellent resource for your child’s first three years.

As a bonus, throughout the book there are contributions from some of our favourite experts including Dr. Harvey Karp, Dr. Bob Sears, Healthy Child Healthy World, and more.

Overall, this is a great book to have on hand during your child’s first few years. Give it as a baby shower present or buy it for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
