Nothing says “summer” like lemonade. It’s not only a celebrated summer drink, it is a quintessential part of healthy hydration. We’ve kicked up the “healthy” in this summer favourite by adding sweet watermelon for a new twist on this renowned classic. Serve in chilled glasses with lots of ice.

Ingredients:

2 cups (500 mL) cubed seedless watermelon
2 cups (500 mL) water of your choice (sparkling or still)
¼ cup (50 mL) freshed squeezed lemon juice

Optional: Sugar to suit your taste up to 1/3 cup (75mL)

Garnish with slices of watermelon and fresh lemon wedges

Instructions:

  1. In a blender, puree watermelon until smooth.
  2. Strain through fine mesh strainer into pitcher.  [Option, you can leave this step out if you like the fine pulp].

If you prefer sweet drinks, add sugar to water and stir until dissolved.

  1. Add water and lemon juice to pitcher and stir.
  2. Refrigerate until chilled, about 1 hour.

Serves 4.
