Time Out with T

Teresa is a 30-something working mother of a three-year-old girl named Tali. She works for a prominent media company in the city of Toronto and lives in the Lakeshore Village Community in south Etobicoke. She’s been married for nearly five years and just became the proud mother of two. Through her blog she will explore the trials and tribulations of the every-day working mom, wife, employee, sister, cousin, friend and SLAVE! ; )

Tali Tales

Kids say the funniest things and my Tali is no exception to that. Yesterday my husband Pete picked her up from school and took her with him to the Tim Horton’s drive-thru. He got himself a coffee and treated her to an apple juice. After he gave her the juice, he saw her ‘smoking’ with her straw through the rear view mirror. He asked her what she was doing and she replied “I’m smoking daddy.” To which he so eloquently said,...

Please Stay for Ballet

I’m not going to supervise stranger’s children. I’m not a teacher, ECE worker or nanny. You don’t know me. Why would you trust me to take your child to the bathroom? Better yet, why do you deprive me of my ‘time off’? Let me explain my beef with ballet class. My 4-year-old daughter Tali is enrolled at a local rec. centre ballet class. It’s a half hour class, every Wednesday evening. I leave Charlotte (my 7-month-old) at home...

Renovation + Constipation = FRUSTRATION

Hey there, it’s been a while. I’m still at home on mat. leave with Charlotte. I can’t believe she’s already six months old! I’ve been trying to keep busy this winter and have just been exhausted really. My days have mainly consisted of dropping and picking up Tali (my 4-year-old) at school, going to the gym, grocery shopping and other such errands (all this while lugging Charlotte around of course), then home to start dinner and get...

My husband the comedian

Guess what, I'm married to Denis f#$ing Leary. I was sitting on the couch in pjs, no bra, slouched back with the laptop on my lap catching up on some blog posts and checking emails, etc. He saw I had the camera out because I was uploading some pictures on to the computer so he lovingly took a picture of me and asked "What is this part called?" (referring to my lower abdomen). If you knew our relationship, you would laugh as hard as I did....

Meet my new best friend…Mr. Gym Membership

Guess what? I just joined the gym. I won't say which one 'cause I don't want to give a big chain even more promotion. But I will not hesitate to name them later when it comes time to cancel my membership when I go back to work (my work has a gym) and they keep charging my credit card as I've heard they've done many times to many people. Anyhow, I joined to get back in shape (funny 'cause I wasn't in much 'shape' before I was pregnant anyway)...

Sick kids

So I'm home alone with the two girls as my husband is out working in London, ON for a few days. And as I say to my friend "My worst fear is that one of them gets sick or I get sick" and sure enough, that very night, my oldest wakes up in the middle of the night and has a fever. My thermometer wasn't working so I had no idea how bad (but she was saying things like "Mom, the house is moving!" and "Mom, how come you have two heads?"). And as...

Safe sex after baby

Okay so this blog is not going to be about not having the urge, or my husband being scared to 'go there' or not being ready, etc. Both Pete and I were counting down the days to my 6-week check-up to make sure I had the 'all-clear' to have sex again (it was moreso Pete and the countdown but I was looking forward to it as well). This time with baby #2 though, it's been quite different. Where do people find the time??? I'm always tired. Plus,...

Ta-ta to T’s Talons

So baby Charlotte is now two months old and I finally gave up on my nails. I've never had long nails (they are prone to peeling) and now with the pregnancy hormones, they got nice and long and so strong. But after scratching Tali while getting her dressed and scratching baby Charlotte in the face (it was small but she cried - I know, mother of year - jeez talk about vanity) I went to the cupboard, got out the nail clippers and cut them...

More than just a bad hair day

If you read my previous blog entry, you'll know I had my second baby, Charlotte, on Oct. 2. So for the past month, my days and nights have consisted of mainly chaos. Trying to master breastfeeding (I'll save that story for another entry), washing baby clothes, the never-ending challenge of waiting for a good burp, rocking, holding, swaddling (this time around I bought one of those swaddle blankets that have velcro and I love it! It really...

Kids say the funniest things

This morning as I was getting my daughter Tali ready for school, Tali said to me...."Mommy, you have big boobies." So I said, "Yes that's right Tali, mommy is a grown-up and has big boobies. Some people have small boobs and some have big and some have medium-sized boobs. Everyone is different." To which she replied, "That's right mommy and when I grow up, I wanna have BIIIIIIIIG boobs that shoot out milk just like you!" and then she made a...

Charlotte’s Web Welcome

I'm baaaack! So today is officially Charlotte's one-month birthday. Yes, I had my baby on Oct. 2nd and yes I ended up naming her Charlotte (thanks though for those of you who shared some of your suggestions). I won't bore you all with all the labour details, but will sum it up as such: - woke up at about 4:30 a.m. with cramps - went online to distract myself with Facebook and Twitter and such - by 6 a.m. I went on to an...

It’s the final countdown

Okay 10 days and counting to D-day! It's a mix of 'get here already' and 'nooooo I still have things to do!'. As usual I'm a mixed bag of emotions. My hip/pelvis bones hurt so much I just want it over with and get my body back, but on the other hand, I think, "I only have 10 more days to myself - to rest, run errands, and TRY to sleeeeeep!!" Also, I'm already getting kind of bored of staying home. Isn't that pathetic? I was dying to be off...
